Your Guide To Manufacturer Approved Servicing

Find out what approved servicing is and why dealerships like us are recommended by manufacturers

Part of being a trusted dealership group is supporting our customers in the maintenance and upkeep of their vehicles; we’re not just here for the sale, we’re committed to the service too! Our fully equipped service centres and skilled technical team have earned the trust of not only the brands we represent in a new car capacity (MG, Kia, Nissan and Mazda), but also other well-known manufacturers, such as Ford, Mitsubishi, Citroen, Vauxhall, and Hyundai

As far as we’re concerned, manufacturer approved servicing is vital to maximising the life and health of your vehicle; here we explain how and why.

Why is servicing important?

Safety

If you fail to keep up with the recommended service schedule, or, worse, you neglect to carry out regular maintenance at all, you run the risk of something going wrong with your car. Not only could this endanger you, it could also endanger other road users and pedestrians.

Problems that cause safety concerns on our cars can usually be picked up early at the point of servicing, which can avoid the catastrophic consequences they’d otherwise have out on the roads.

Less chance of breakdowns

Tied in with safety concerns is the obvious inconvenience of a breakdown at the side of the road; hardly ideal when you’re trying to get from A to B.

Regular servicing keeps fluid levels topped up, and is an opportunity to check that elements prone to wear and tear such as belts, tyres and brake pads have plenty of life left in them. Left to chance, these things are likely to fail on you when you least expect it.

Money-saving in the long run

Dodging your car servicing is, notoriously, a false economy; problems that haven’t been identified in time can worsen and become expensive; are you sensing a theme here?

The cost saving you’ve made on the service could double or treble once a part gives out and fails, and this could have been avoided through a once-over with an experienced car technician at the point of servicing.

Why get your car serviced at a manufacturer-approved service centre?

Getting your car serviced at a manufacturer-approved service centre adds an extra layer of peace of mind. This is because only genuine and manufacturer-recommended parts and fluids are used; it’s why the dealership has been approved by the manufacturer themselves to service their cars.

The technicians will also have received training from the manufacturer specifically to be able to work on their cars - so you know work carried out is as good as the manufacturer would do it themselves.

If this isn’t reassurance enough, let us go into a little more detail as to why you should get your car’s service done by a manufacturer-approved dealership:

Keep your vehicle healthy

Manufacturer-approved (or OEM - Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts are made for your vehicle; literally! They’re designed to fit seamlessly into your vehicle, providing efficiency and longevity; they usually come with a warranty, too. The alternative is aftermarket parts, usually fitted by service centres that don’t have the backing of the manufacturer, leaving you on your own if something goes wrong.

Preserve your warranty

Many manufacturer warranties will stipulate only OEM parts can be fitted to your car in order for them to honour the protection they sold the car with. After all, they can’t guarantee parts that weren’t made by them, and if they have knock-on effects on the rest of the car, they can’t be liable.

We’d always recommend checking the small print when it comes to warranties, as you can’t be too careful; it would be pretty frustrating to have it voided by opting for a garage that isn’t manufacturer-approved.

Leave your vehicle in the hands of skilled technicians

A manufacturer-approved technician will know your vehicle inside and out; they’ll be best placed not only to give your car the thorough and recommended service, but also to diagnose any issues, and select the right part for the job. A big part of manufacturer repairs and servicing is a Right First time approach, and it’s certainly what we aim for at our EMG dealerships.

Do I have to get my car serviced at the dealership I bought it at?

In short, no, we’d just strongly recommend that the service centre you choose should be manufacturer-approved, particularly if you want the benefits we've mentioned above. Our workshop doors are always open to EMG customers past and present who are looking for the peace of mind that a manufacturer-approved service centre provides; we even offer service plans to spread the cost.
