​Design

This ruggedly handsome SUV features four big doors, ensuring that access is a breeze, especially since the second row of seats slides backwards and forwards. There are plenty of cubby spaces throughout the cabin for stowing bottles, drinks and sundry other items too. With the rearmost row folded, the Sorento possesses a very decent 660-litre boot space. With just the front seats in place, luggage volume increases to a more than generous 1,996-litre capacity in the self-charging hybrid and 2,011-litre capacity in the 2.2l diesel – split-folding 40/20/40 rear seats ensures that it’s always easy to achieve an ideal passenger-cargo balance.

​Performance

The Kia Sorento is powered by a 1.6-litre Turbo 350bhp self-charging hybrid engine, which puts out a peak torque of 350Nm, helping the vehicle to achieve 0-60mph in less than nine seconds. The All-New Sorento is also available as a 2.2-litre 119bhp Diesel engine, which achieves 0-60mph in just over 9 seconds.  This versatile SUV has proven to be popular with caravan owners. This is thanks to a 2,500kg towing capacity on the Diesel model and 1,650 on the hybrid models that enables the vehicle to pull full-size mobile homes with ease, while maintaining good stability, even on winding country roads.

​Safety and technology

The car comes with a maximum five-star crash-test rating, as awarded by Euro NCAP. This is in recognition of the array of driver aids and passive safety features that are included as standard. For example, Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) prevents the Sorento from wobbling whenever it is cornering and braking at the same time. What’s more, VSM works in conjunction with Electronic Stability Control by automatically applying the brakes whenever the car’s sensors detect a loss of traction.

A six-speaker sound system – complete with eight-inch touchscreen display, DAB radio and AM/FM tuner – is included as standard. Bluetooth connectivity features too, enabling music streaming and hands-free mobile phone communication. Also included are Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, either of which allows you to mirror your smartphone’s screen via the car’s own display.
