Which Mazda is Right For Me?

Our guide to choosing a model of Mazda to suit your needs

Mazda is a manufacturer that has gone from strength to strength over the years, answering popular demand with increasingly impressive versions of the famous MX-5, as well as diversifying their model range with some stunning SUVs and electric vehicles.

Mazda is a brand we’re proud to represent at EMG’s Cambridge and Boston dealerships, which are both home to teams that are knowledgeable and passionate about this much-loved manufacturer.

Our East Anglia Mazda showrooms really are the place to fully appreciate the range of options that Mazda offers the modern motorist, and we spend each day matching our customers with the car they dream of. In your own search for your next car, you may be wondering ‘which Mazda is right for me?’ So here is some information that might just help you out…

Your classic Roadster

If some sporty style is what you crave, you can’t go wrong with the iconic MX-5; it’s a global best-seller! Wind in your hair, a comfortable driving position, and some super nippy handling are what you can look forward to when you get the keys to one of these fantastic two-seaters. There’s plenty of tech on the MX-5 menu, ranging from Bluetooth and air conditioning to a seven-inch touchscreen satellite navigation system, and blind spot monitoring.

In terms of performance, a standard-issue 1.5-litre 132bhp petrol engine isn’t to be sniffed at, proceeding from 0-60mph in under 9 seconds. It also boasts 44.8mpg combined figure, and CO2 emissions from 143g/km.

For a potent upgrade, you can opt for the GT Sport Nav+ trim level, giving you the power of a 2.0-litre engine, and the ability to say that your wheels go from 0-60mph in 6.3 seconds!

Your reliable hatchback

Our hatchbacks work hard; from the weekday commute to the school run and trips out as a family, they serve so many purposes that you’ll want to make sure you pick the right one! As it happens, Mazda has designed hatchbacks to tick the boxes for a range of lifestyles, and EMG are proud to present them:

Mazda2

Translating the cute and compact appeal of the MX-5 into a car with back seats and a boot that’s more than capable of carrying your everyday cargo, the Mazda2 is a small city car that will get you where you want to go in style.

A selection of features inside means you have all you need within easy reach, such as Mazda Connect Navigation, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. If you’re often battling busy roads, this car keeps you connected.

Your standard Mazda2 is generally fitted with a 1.5-litre 73bhp petrol engine, delivering up to 60.1mpg, and a CO2 emission figure of 122g/km. Upgrade to the Sport and GT Sport models, however, and enjoy 93bhp with your 1.5l engine instead! It all depends on what performance you want from your daily driver.

Looking to move with the times? The Mazda2 Hybrid drops another option into the mix, as this smart engine type allows you to switch between petrol and battery power (or a mixture of the two) to maximise performance, reduce emissions, and improve your fuel consumption - no plug-in required!

Mazda3

The Mazda3 is available as both a hatchback and a saloon, which is a testament to the versatility of Mazda’s designs. If you’ve got a growing family, the Mazda3 is likely to be a very appealing addition to your life, with easy access for passengers, and a 334-litre boot space that expands to 1,360 litres whenever rear seats are folded. Saloon versions offer an increased 450-litre boot space, so bear that in mind if your lifestyle lends itself to a bit of extra space.

With increased size comes an increase in the engine’s credentials too, as each Mazda3 is fitted with a 2.0-litre engine as standard. This ensures it can be as at home on a motorway as it can on the school run, and it manages up to 55.4mpg and produces CO2 emissions from 119g/km.

A 5-star Euro NCAP rating is enough to reassure responsible drivers, and features such as Smart City Brake Support bolster further trust in the Mazda3.

Your stylish SUV

Nobody can ignore the boom in popularity of the Sports Utility Vehicle in recent years, and Mazda is right on top of that trend with its SUV models. Here is the lineup:

Mazda CX-30

The CX-30 is ready for modern life, and it's designed to fit in with yours like a dream, subtly blurring boundaries between coupe and SUV. Confident around cities and capable of taking you away from it all, the CX-30 offers the best of both worlds if you’re taking your first steps into the world of SUV ownership.

For those getting behind the wheel of the entry-level SE-L trim, you’ll be powered by a 2.0-litre 122bhp petrol engine, which delivers up to 47.9mpg, and produces 134g/km CO2 emissions. Upgrading to the GT Sport option sees an uptick in fuel efficiency thanks to a 2.2-litre 184bhp 2wd petrol unit that returns as much as 49.6mpg and produces 128g/km CO2 emission figure.

Mazda CX-5

Since 2012, the CX-5 has been providing comfort and convenience to families; it’s a bestseller for a reason! Wide-opening rear doors, lots of handy storage compartments, and a 506-litre boot space make it a no-brainer if you’re looking for an SUV that will serve the needs of a busy household.

All this practicality doesn’t come at the cost of good looks though; 17 inch alloys come as standard, and colour-coded door handles and door mirrors complete that sleek image.

Powered by a 2.0-litre engine, the entry-level SE-L models deliver up to 47.9mpg, and produce  a 154g/km CO2 emission figure. Sport and GT Sport grades, meanwhile, offer optimal fuel-efficiency, thanks to a 2.2-litre 184bhp diesel unit that returns as much as 60.1mpg and produces 173g/km CO2 emission figure.

A Euro NCAP rating of 5 stars is no surprise thanks to the standard installation of Autonomous Emergency Braking, and on the road there’s the option to stream music straight from your phone. These are just some of the reasons families choose the Mazda CX-5 for safety, convenience, and fun!
