What Used Car Should I Choose Next? Upgrade Your Car in 2023

Whether you opt for a new or used model, then we can help with your next purchase

If you’ve resolved to finally get around to upgrading your car this year, you may be wondering how to squeeze a quality car that ticks all your boxes out of your budget. As far as we’re concerned here at EMG, upgrading your car doesn’t necessarily mean signing up for a model that’s just rolled off the production line (although that is possible thanks to our association with Kia, Mazda, MG and Nissan.)

No, it’s possible to find a pre-loved car that suits you, with plenty more miles left to clock up, lots of impressive features, and a reasonable price tag to boot. In fact, we’ve got over 500 such cars at our EMG branches across East Anglia ready for you to browse.

What kinds of used car can I find at EMG?

Hatchbacks and SUVs

The bread and butter of British roads, the wide range of hatchbacks and SUVs available at EMG can bend to a lot of lifestyles. From the solo traveller on their daily commute to the small family in need of legroom and luggage space, there’s a variety of dimensions, engine sizes, technology and transmission types to suit your needs and budget.

Estates

If you’ve got a growing family, a leggy dog, or a fondness for the golf course, you might need a car that goes back a bit further, and for this, estates were made for you. They’re definitely cars built with comfort in mind, with cabin space and cargo capacity to accommodate everything you need.

Convertibles

Fancy the wind in your hair in 2023? We have come convertibles in stock at EMG that can make this particular dream come true. From Mercedes-Benz SLKs (and who wouldn’t want to be seen in one of those) to the famous MX-5 from our franchise partner Mazda, we can sort you out a little something sporty for the weekend.

Saloons and coupes

For those after something suave and sophisticated, a saloon or coupe may just be right up your street. Those sloping rooflines and sleek presence on the roads make them timelessly attractive, so whether you’re cruising to work or heading on a weekend away, you’re guaranteed to be travelling in style.

What should I consider when choosing my next used car?

Your lifestyle

There’s a lot to consider when trying to find a car that suits all your requirements, so it’s worth drawing up a list of all the ways it needs to work for you.

Will it just be you in the car most of the time, or will you regularly be ferrying the family around? Does the dog need to be considered too? Maybe you’re often loading luggage into the car? This kind of thing will determine the size of the car (not forgetting that all-important boot space), as well as the tech you need; if you’ve got the kids in the back, you’ll want phone connectivity that can play tunes to keep them quiet on long journeys!

Your mileage

If you regularly do short, around-town journeys, you’ll likely only need a small engine size in your car, like a 1L, or a 1.2L. These kinds of journeys are well suited to electric or hybrid cars too, reducing emissions as well as your fuel bill by allowing you to recharge at home.

If you hit the road for long periods of time, you might need something a little juicier, with a bigger petrol engine, or even a diesel, so that it can manage faster roads with ease.

Your budget

You opt for a used car for the good value that it offers, but even these preloved models will differ on the affordability scale. Work out what you can afford to pay upfront or monthly, including any deposits you need to make on finance deals. This will narrow down your search, and that’s something you can do quite literally on the EMG website by setting your maximum price.
