Meet The All-New MG4-EV

When it comes to value for money and a model range that caters to everyone, MG is a brand making an impact on the automotive scene. In 2011, they released their first car in 16 years, and the first under new Chinese ownership. Since then, they’ve gone from strength to strength, and the latest in their range is an offering that puts big green ticks in every box…

We’d like to introduce you to the MG4 EV, a bright, bold, battery-powered car that serves as MGs first all-electric hatchback. As you’re probably aware by now, there’s a ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars coming into effect in 2030, so it’s no surprise that manufacturers are releasing competitively priced all-electric models. By releasing the MG4 EV, MG provides an attractive, well-equipped option with a reasonable price tag, spicing things up on the electric car market.

A head-turning design…

Let’s start with how this car looks - it’s an eye-catcher, for sure! Promotional models have been Volcano Orange, an indication from MG that while the MG4 is as green as it comes, its colour range doesn’t have to be.

This car’s overall aesthetic is dynamic, with sharp lines and angular lights that make it pretty sporty. Considering it's a hatchback, it’s been given some very generous dimensions indeed; it could easily be a small family car.

Moving on to specification…

The MG4 EV is available in three different trim levels. At the entry level, you’ll find SE, a trim that offers you MG Pilot, a 10.25" colour touchscreen, iSMART user app, Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™; not bad for some ‘as standard’ tech! This model has a 1-speed automatic engine, with a 51kWh battery, ideal for around-town journeys.

Selecting one trim level up from this takes you to SE Long Range, which is where the battery is upgraded to an output of 64kWh. As the name suggests, this allows you to go further on a single charge, giving you some further freedom. On the WLTP combined cycle, there’s a combined Range of 281 miles (450 km), a city range of 360 miles (579 km), and combined driving efficiency of 3.8 miles/kWh (16.0 kWh/I00km).

The Trophy Long Range takes the specification itself up a notch, with the addition of a 360° parking camera, wireless mobile phone charger, satellite navigation, heated front seats and steering wheel, and a mobile phone Bluetooth key. When it comes to the 64kWh battery, charging is a breeze - with the help of a public rapid charger, you’re looking at just 35 minutes to go from 10% to 80% charge.

Plenty of practicality…

A car that impresses and performs is all well and good, but it needs to fit into your lifestyle too. As sporty as it is, the space inside is more than enough to ensure that everyone travelling has a comfortable journey. An electric drivetrain keeps that central ‘hump’ low in the back, so even the 5th passenger can sit back and relax.

Carrying cargo? You’ll want to know about the boot space. The MG4 EV has a capacity of 363 litres, which is plenty for shopping trips, weekends away, and all the paraphernalia involved in a day out with the kids!
